Intro to Encaustics Workshop
Learn how this pigmented wax medium works and begin learning application techniques. Learn how to put this ancient medium to modern use with
mixed media using images and text. $50 workshop fee; $25 materials fee. Teacher: Heather Westleigh.
Rug Hooking: Seven Gables Rug Hooking will hold a set of classes on from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturdays in February which will follow one project
through completion. Beginning students will be instructed by Peggy Beyer. Informal gatherings called "hook ins" will be held throughout the
winter in addition to scheduled classes. Students will choose to work on an original project kit, designed and created by Connie Fletcher of
Seven Gables Rug Hooking. The cost is $65 for a set of classes which includes the hoops, hook, wool, linen and backing material and will follow
through one finished project.
Multi-Media – progressing from pencil through paint and various other mediums: Western Maine Art Group Vice-President Irina Kahn, is a practicing
and exhibiting artist who will be teaching a beginning to intermediate art class in mixed media, pencil, paint, and oils on Tuesdays from12:30 to
2:30 p.m. Supplies needed for each class will dependent on the interest of the group to be determined the first day and as the class progresses.
Classes, which will be on-going will start out with a pencil and pad and will begin January 20th.
About the Teachers:
-Brenda Ellis–Sauro is a local gallery owner, art teacher and WMAG member specializing in oil painting and illustration.
-Artist and teacher Gene R. Fuller holds Bachelor of Fine Arts in Commercial Art & Illustration from the Portland School of Art.
-Geoffrey Workman is an artist and teacher who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Southern Maine.
-Heather Westleigh is an artist, workshop teacher and educator at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
-Murad Sa˙en, whose oil paintings were featured in a 2008 solo show at the Lajos Matolcsy Arts Center, is a painter, photographer and published
author who holds a Bachelor of Philosophy of Ethics from Penn State University. He also attended the Masters program in Photography at the University
of New Mexico.
-Irina Kahn earned her bachelor and master degrees in art education from East Carolina University with a concentration in painting and she also
earned a bachelor of arts in languages and psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. Kahn’s arts background includes teaching as an adjunct
professor at Chowan College, art appreciation, figure drawing and drawing and most recently she taught kindergarten though12-grade art at the Ridgecroft
School in North Carolina.
-Peggy Beyer, taught elementary school for many years. She combines profession with passion as a fiber artist and rug hooking instructor.
-Connnie Fletcher, who serves on the Western Maine Art Group board of directors graduated from San Francisco State with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with
a concentration on the fiber arts. She has been hooking rugs since 1998 and started Seven Gables Rug Hooking in 2002.
